Personal Note

I've owned two advertising agencies over the course of 25 years, and have always had a focus on marketing. I have, in later years, only been working with a limited number of clients, so that I may provide in-depth services.

Business and art are similar. Both require skill and foresight. Both flourish, embracing risk and free spirit. In either case a lot is on the line and it is a challenge to create success.

Owning a business is more than a full time job and being an artist was a stress-reliever and great therapy - if I made the time for it. So, I decided to incorporate mosaics into my business. Now, my art has become an area in which I can seriously concentrate.

BIO

As an artist, Wendy has always reserved time to paint, draw or produce computer animations and art. In the past four years, mosaics have become such a passion, that Wendy decided to integrate mosaic art with her western New York marketing business, MediaTek Grafx.

Mosaics have been a constant evolution for Wendy, from the very first mosaic with all of the natural element combinations - to the glass-on-glass style, and mosaic smalti and porcelain jewelry, which she is currently creating. The colors, textures, vast differences in composition – all are limitless and that is what is so magnetizing. Wendy work with many types of components – agate slices and beautiful china and antique copper trays and tree slices from the woods. Wendy has antique boxes, an octagonal wooden basket, glass, wood and Lucite substrates for future mosaics. She creates mosaic art because it celebrates concentration, yet imperfection, and it provides time for reflection, while using the talents God has given her. Imagination seems to be the only limit to creative possibilities with this art form.

Wendy Nelson has owned two advertising agencies, cumulatively for thirteen years, in Florida and in New York; has previously been an Art Director for a Chautauqua County advertising agency and has been Manager of Technical Support for an internet service provider in Florida, as well as being self-employed in other businesses. In 32 years, Wendy has worked with a multitude of businesses, and keeps up with changing technology.

MediaTek Grafx was set up to grow, with a three-fold business plan, from advertising and marketing to technology and graphic arts. Wendy has participated in various enrichment activities that have enabled her to serve the community and shape her business future: The Marketing Academy seminar in Dallas, TX; Marketing for Small Business at Jamestown Community College in Jamestown, NY and attended the Fred Pryor Seminar “How to Supervise People” in Tampa, FL.

Wendy’s art has appeared in productions: “Mosaic Art 3, ‘An International Portfolio of Contemporary Mosaic Art from 2007’" and in the newly released, “Mosaic Art 4, ‘An International Portfolio of Contemporary Mosaic Art from 2008’" – a two DVD set, as well as various web sites. Wendy was Guest Speaker presenting “Self-Employment: Operating an Advertising Agency,” at the Withlacoochee Technical Institute, Inverness, FL. I was also Guest Speaker for a topic for troubled teens regarding “Responsibility and Self-Employment,” at the Eckerd Youth Ranch, Floral City, FL.

Wendy has taught both two-day and three-day mosaic workshops at the Wright Gallery for The Arts Council for Chautauqua County, “Mosaic Wall Hangings for Beginners”

Wendy has been married 30 years and has two grown sons. She enjoys photography, web site design, Bible studies, and browsing antique stores with her husband on weekends. And mosaics.
